LNG Competence description
Brunsbüttel as a location ideally combines the different ways in which LNG`s potential can be exploited. The port is strategically excellent situated at the junction of the Elbe River and the Kiel Canal and is a perfect location for bunkering ships with LNG as an alternative fuel. In the Elbehafen truck-to-ship LNG-bunkering is conducted frequently since beginning of the year 2017. In addition, Brunsbüttel hosts the biggest inter-connected industrial park in Schleswig-Holstein. Companies from the chemical industry with large gas supply requirements are already settled there and could feasibly be among candidates for LNG as an alternative to pipeline gas.
Gasunie Holding B.V., Oiltanking GmbH and Vopak LNG Holding B.V. have established the Joint venture "German LNG Terminal GmbH". It`s aim to develop, build, own and operate a multifunctional LNG Import terminal in northern Germany. German LNG Terminal`s work is currently focused on Brunsbüttel.
