20 LNG trucks in Spain!

Alimerka, the Spanish supermarket chain, recently has acquired 20 Scania trucks powered by liquefied natural gas (LNG). Each vehicles is able to reduce the emission of carbon dioxide (CO2) by 30% compared to standard diesel engine – 40 tons less CO2 per year and generate about half as much noise as a conventional truck.

New trucks, supplied with two LNG tanks allow tours up to 1,000 km between stops and they will function in the area of Asturias, Castilla, León and Galicia. Transport fleet will be fueled at Alimerka logistic center in Lugo de Llanera.

The decision of acquisition LNG vehicles is a continuation of company’s green strategy. Alimerka has already use electric vans since 2012. The cost of total investment in LNG truck is €3 million.
