DUON and Klaipedos Nafta will cooperate in LNG business

SC Klaipedos Nafta and Polish energy company DUON established cooperation in the development of liquefied natural gas (LNG) activities in the Baltic region. Company is planning to use the advantages of LNG reloading station that will be constructed in Klaipedos Nafta territory.

One of the leading Polish natural gas and electricity suppliers and the largest LNG supply company DUON and Klaipedos Nafta has signed a letter of intent for LNG capacity allocation via the on-shore LNG reloading station, which will start operating in 2017.

“Klaipeda LNG reloading station will be geographically attractive to supply LNG for the Northeastern Polish industrial objects. The fact that one of the strongest Polish energy companies become our partner is a proof that Klaipedos Nafta has chosen the right development strategy, taking into account the needs of the region", - says Mantas Bartuška, Klaipedos Nafta CEO.

“We are very happy to sign this letter of intent as one of DUON’s strategic goals is to develop LNG sales and distribution business. In past two years we faced shortages on the Polish LNG market, so terminal in Klaipeda with a reloading station means for us both: security of supplies for our customers and a possibility to offer LNG to wider group of consumers. Having new sources of LNG we predict the Polish LNG market to grow fast within next few years”, - comments Mariusz Caliński, DUON CEO.

This is the second agreement that Klaipedos Nafta made with potential users of the future LNG reloading station. The first company, with which Klaipedos Nafta has signed a similar agreement, is Estonian JetGas.

The State owns 72.32 percent of Klaipedos Nafta.
