Lietuvos Dujų Tiekimas buys LNG from United States

Lithuania's natural gas supply and trading company Lietuvos Dujų Tiekimas, owned by the state-control Lietuvos Energija, has signed a contract with the US Cheniere Marketing International for LNG cargo. Tha gas will be transfered to Inčiukalnis Natural Gas Storage in Latvia.

It will be one of the first in the Baltic countries when the natural gas supplier will adapt to the practice in Western Europe and will use the opportunities offered by the global LNG market and the natural gas infrastructure of the Baltic States - the LNG terminal and the gas storage facility for commercial purposes.

The first contacts with Cheniere Marketing International were set up by LITGAS, a company owned by Lietuvos Energija, which signed a general LNG contract with this US company at the end of February 2015.

"Being in the group of Lietuvos Energijos and taking advantage of the accumulated experience, we are successfully expanding the geography of our acquisitions by attracting new LNG suppliers to Lithuania. This acquisition is part of our ongoing commitment to optimally diversify supply sources, exploiting market opportunities and seasonal price volatility. This enables the Lietuvos Dujų Tiekimui to offer its customers in Lithuania and other Baltic States competitive prices and flexible supply conditions, "said Mantas Mikalajūnas, General Manager of Lietuvos Dujų Tiekimui.

The first US LNG cargo to land in Lithuania is expected in the second half of August.
