MT Group wins more Zeebrugge LNG work from Fluxys

Lithuania’s MT Group has won more work from Belgium’s Fluxys regarding the expansion of the latter’s LNG import terminal in the port of Zeebrugge.

MT Group said in a recent statement the new contract includes mechanical, piping and structural steel work for four additional truck loading bays at the Zeebrugge LNG terminal.

This “add-on contract” follows a deal MT Group revealed in December last year worth about 14 million euros ($15.2 million) for Zeebrugge LNG expansion work, the firm said.

Both of the contracts have a price tag of more than 17.5 million euros ($19 million), MT Group said.

The contractor added that the site mobilization and preparatory works for the expansion project were already completed.

Last year, Fluxys took a final investment decision to almost double the regasification capacity at the LNG terminal after a successful open season.

The Zeebrugge terminal currently consists of five tanks with a storage capacity of 566,000 cbm and a regasification capacity of about 6.6 mtpa.

Fluxys recently said that the LNG facility had conducted record 181 ship operations during 2021.

This compares to 172 operations in the year before, which also marked a record boosted by more transshipments.

Also, the firm said that LNG truck loading had experienced “particularly strong growth” over the past three years due to the sharp increase in demand for LNG as an alternative fuel for ships and trucks.

The number of loading operations doubled to 6,635 in 2021.
