Skangas and Kemira Oyj cooperation
Skangas and the chemicals company Kemira Oyj have entered into an agreement on the supply of liquefied natural gas (LNG) for the Kemira plant producing water treatment chemicals in Kaanaa industrial park, Pori, Finland. The Pori plant will use LNG in production processes. LNG will be delivered in the gaseous form to the Kemira production plant via a connection pipeline from the Skangas Pori LNG terminal.
Kemira’s Pori plant produces water treatment chemicals for the purification of drinking water as well as wastewater. The heat required in the manufacturing process of the product mainly made for exports has been generated using propane gas, which will now be replaced by liquefied natural gas (LNG). This fuel switch will improve safety in fuel distribution while at the same time reducing the plant's annual carbon dioxide emissions from process fuels by around 15%.
”Kemira’s contribution to the project was completed safely without any accidents, on schedule and on budget and in good cooperation with the gas supplier, Skangas, and others involved in the project. We’re happy that we’re able to reduce our production-related carbon footprint thanks to this fuel choice,” says Plant Manager Jari Takala from Kemira Oyj.
”It’s great to see Kemira start using LNG. We offer low emissions friendly LNG for a diversity of industrial needs as well as for use as a shipping and heavy-duty road transport fuel. Natural gas is an excellent choice as a production plant's process fuel. It helps improve safety at the plant and reduce environmental impacts. We have lots of satisfied customers that have gained environmental and safety benefits by switching to LNG,” says Key Account Manager Jouni Bedda from Skangas.
