Launching of the first dual fuel tug built in Europe

Gondan Shipyard in Figueras, at high tide, the first Dual Fuel tug ever built in Europe – and the first of a series of three currently under construction for the Norwegian shipowner Østensjø Rederi - has been successfully launched.

Strategic Marine has secured a contract with Rederij Doeksen for two LNG-powered aluminium catamarans.

The RoPax ferries will feature a new single-fuel LNG propulsion system for efficiency advantages over dual-fuel engines. The eco-friendly ferries can carry up to 600 passengers and 64 cars.

Wärtsilä to power first UK dual-fuel new build vessels

The first ever UK domestic dual-fuelled new build vessels will feature fully integrated Wärtsilä propulsion machinery packages. Wärtsilä will also supply extended engineering and site support services. The two ships, both 102 metre long ro-ro passenger ferries, are being built for Caledonian Maritime Assets Ltd

European Premiere: First LNG Tank Car Loading

Brunsbüttel/Hamburg, April 25, 2016. VTG Aktiengesellschaft (WKN: VTG999), one of Europe's
leading wagon hire and rail logistics companies, loaded an LNG tank car with cryogenic liquefied natural gas (LNG) at Brunsbüttel Ports' Elbe port for the first time today, in cooperation with Chart Ferox a.s. and PRIMAGAS.

Wärtsilä to deliver complete gas solution for two Canadian ferries to be converted by Remontowa for LNG operation

Wärtsilä has been awarded the contract by Gdańsk Shiprepair Yard "Remontowa" S.A., to supply a comprehensive scope of engines, propulsion machinery, integrated automation systems, and gas handling systems required for the mid-life upgrading of two RoPax ferries and their conversion to operate on LNG fuel.

Stena signs contract for four new RoPax ferries

China introduces sulphur requirements for marine fuels (REV)

This revised version covers port requirements from April 1st 2016. China has published new regulations designating three areas as sulphur control areas effective January 1st 2019. Eleven key ports are allowed to impose requirements for fuel burned at berth as early as January 1st 2016 – four will do so from April 1st. Mandatory port requirements will go into force January 1st 2017.

JetGas and Lithuanian LNG terminal operator Klaipedos Nafta concluded a preliminary contract

Lithuanian SC Klaipedos Nafta is projecting and this year will start building a liquefied natural gas (LNG) distribution station. JetGas, the only LNG supplier in Estonia, is interested to become a user of this infrastructure in order to supply LNG as an alternative fuel for the industries around the Baltic countries and to expand LNG regas stations’ network.

A new fast ropax ferry ordered by the Estonia based Tallink Grupp for its Tallinn – Helsinki route, will feature Wärtsilä dual-fuel engines running primarily on liquefied natural gas (LNG). The ship is to be built at the Meyer Turku shipyard in Finland and is scheduled to be in operation from the beginning of 2017. The contract with Wärtsilä was signed in February.
