Spain will have the International Liquefied Natural Gas (LNG) School
Jovellanos Centre of the Spanish Maritime Safety Agency and Enagás have formalised an agreement for the creation of the International LNG School, which will offer a wide range of training courses for professionals in the industry.
The Director General of the Spanish Merchant Navy and chairman of the Marine Safety Agency, Rafael Rodríguez Valero, and the Chief Executive Officer of Enagás, Marcelino Oreja, signed the agreement in the Jovellanos Integral Maritime Safety Centre in Gijón, in whose installations the courses of the future international school outlined in the agreement will be held. The facilities of the El Musel regasification plant will be the other setting where training will be given.
This agreement, the result of a collaboration between the Maritime Safety Agency and Enagás within the CORE LNGas hive project, which is cofinanced by the European Union, whose main objective is to jointly structure a training programme to cover all aspects of LNG. This programme is directed towards professionals in the industry, both from
Spain and abroad.
LNG is one of the most environmentally friendly fuels, which is why its use is being promoted for marine transport and in ports throughout Spain and Europe.
CESEMI Jovellanos
The Jovellanos Integral Maritime Safety Centre installations cover on a 143,000-m² site and are equipped with the ideal infrastructure. It employs a team of professionals with broad experience in providing training in the field of safety, marine rescue and fire-fighting, and in relation to LNG. Specifically in the field of LNG, the Jovellanos Centre is one of the few
institutions in the European Union that teaches the LNG Fire Hazard Management course for action in the case of emergencies. This provides practical knowledge of the properties of this fuel and special hazards involved in potentially foreseeable scenarios, in addition to technical and strategic alternatives for their mitigation.
Enagás
Enagás is an international leader in the development, operation and maintenance of gas infrastructures. It is an EU-certified independent Transmission System Operator (TSO) and therefore accredited as an independent operator in any European country. In Spain, Enagás is the leading natural gas transmission company and Technical Manager of the Spanish Gas System. It possesses four regasification plants, located in Barcelona, Huelva, Cartagena and El Musel, Gijón. It also has a 50% stake in the Bilbao regasification plant and 72.5% of its counterpart in Sagunto. It also has close to 12,000 km of gas pipelines and three underground storage facilities: Serrablo (province of Huesca), Gaviota (province of Vizcaya) and Yela (province of Guadalajara). As well as in Spain, Enagás is also present in Mexico, Chile, Peru, Sweden, Italy, Greece and Albania.
